Rebate checks, the stash and training

So its been almost a week since I last posted. My track record right now is not so good for posting. Is not like I don't have things to share its just I don't get around to posting when I think about it I can't post because I am busy with other things. (work and so on)
So anyway I was just reading the news and it came to my attention that the whole rebate check thing is supposed to be made official on Wed. Which means there is going to be another run of people looking for their checks wanting to know all they can about them. Add that to the usual mass of people that call on a daily basis with the "is my refund check there yet?" thing and I am likely to be losing some of my hair in the next week or so.

In an effort to combat that issue I dragged my whole stash into the living room along with my patterns and I am going though them. My goal is to knit my way though the countless patterns I have and see if I like them. If not they are going bye bye . :) I also have been checking out books from the lib. Lately its been sock pattern and spinning/dying books. Mom and I both have this thing for unusual socks so I am wanting to learn how to make them. I have also been having a blast trying to find some yarn that is not going to be too warm or wear poorly as a sock while being mostly natural fiber (less than 15% synthetic). I never knew there were so many different kinds of "sock" yarn or that they could be knit at such varied gauges.

There was a large YAY! moment on my part yesterday when I completed my "training" sock. Its pink and little and it taught me that I am not really that fond of the kitchner stitch, least not right now. I might make a few baby socks just to get better at sock making and find the method I like best. Toe up or top down? How to close the toe? the best cast on for top down? Best cast on for toe-up? Preferred needle size? I do have photos of my sock in process I am just not motivated enough to get them off my camera right now. Perhaps later.

For now I am going back to my other WIP, I doing a free style project, lets hope it doesn't look like crap when I am done. :)
