A Holiday and A Birthday

So its the 27th day of December, we are fast approaching another starting of another year. Yesterday was my moms birthday, we had plans to go to a movie and then go out to eat for steak as is tradition. As usual she had chosen one of her holiday gifts to save till her birthday, in this case I think she was shocked at what her gift was. Anyhow, long story short step-dad and step-bro and one of his friends invaded the day. It was decided we would all meet at the theater and see the movie together, not knowing what theater is was at we made plans to meet at the larger of the two. The movie was not playing there, well the boys ran off (they are 16) and step-dad couldn't find them so it ended up being just mom and I at the movie which I think was best. After that we went out to eat, I had plans to take mom out using money I had set aside but was given a gift card so I planned to use that instead. I did not plan on there being 5 of us and the other 3 ordering meals that cost twice what ours (mom & I) did. So I ended up tossing my gift card out on the table to cover the bill and she ended up having to pay for part of her birthday meal as step-dad did not have enough money to cover the remainder of the bill. (I paid for the food mom and I ate and she ended up paying for a portion of the food the guys ate.) Not fair I think but what do I know.

As for the holiday I got wonderful gifts from mom and my granparents. Step-dad got me what I can only describe as a "oh shoot I have to get Kat a gift yet and its 9pm on the 24th" gift. So i faked that I was impressed and went on with life. However the step's didn't really seem to give a crap for the gifts that I got them and step-dad didn't get the ONE THING that mom asked for so shes a little upset. I think part of it is that the step's spent quite a bit more on each other than they did on us and no where near what we spent on them despite the fact they have more $$ to spend. So all is not well there.

The totally wonderful gifts that I got from family:
a doorbell (we didn't have one at all, now we do and it rings 13 differing tunes), 2 brownie pans, a box of noodles that I love, a shiny wreath pin, a case for my camera, the knitter's handbook spiral bound hardcover, a super soft purse that I can use for my WIP, attachments for a garden hose(I didn't have any and being a new homeowner they are useful to have), and gifts cards as well as money. Overall lovely gifts, but this year what was most fun for me was watching everyone else open the gifts I got them. I got mom a bird feeder she had been wanting, a heated blanket, a DVD that we saw and she was entranced with, she also got a new light fixture covering for her room and the same gift cards and money that I did from granma and granpa.

Knitting news is sad in that I still don't have the baby hat done but I got my granpa's KK hat done, just have to get it to him (its in mom's car right now and shes at work.)

Hope your holidays were wonderful and bright.
